In the interest of patient safety, William Newton Hospital has placed a temporary pause on certain scheduled surgeries and scheduled deliveries, following an in-depth review of our blood bank.

The administration of blood products is very complex. As patient safety is our top priority, we are requiring select staff to undergo additional training before resuming these services.

In the rare occasion a patient needs a blood transfusion, William Newton Hospital has transfer agreements in place with other hospitals. If you are seeking emergency care, please present to the ER as usual. All patients receive a screening upon arrival to assess medical needs. If you are in labor, please work with your labor and delivery provider. Talk to them ahead of time, and they will give you instructions on how to proceed safely.

It is our goal to resume full operations as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we hope you understand these measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of our patients.
