William Newton Hospital welcomes first baby
Jan 02, 2024
The first baby born in 2024 at the William Newton Family Birthing Center was delivered at 3:04 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2.
Ruth Lyman, daughter of Thomas and Tara Lyman of Arkansas City, weighed six pounds four ounces and was 19 inches long.
Proud dad Thomas Lyman, DPM, is one of William Newton Hospital’s own physicians. Lyman, a podiatrist practicing at William Newton Foot & Ankle in Winfield, moved to the area with his family in 2014.
Baby Ruth was delivered by Sunflower OB/GYN's Douglas Moore, DO, and joined siblings Paul, Lydia, Julia, and Liesel.
Of her newborn, mom Tara cheerfully said, “She’s such a miracle. We waited a long time for her.” She thanked nurses Jessica and Jennifer for being so helpful as well as Dr. Moore for helping her feel safe and relaxed.
The William Newton Family Birthing Center is equipped with seven private rooms and two birthing suites. In 2023, William Newton Hospital welcomed 262 newborns to its nursery.
