Quality Cardiac Care, Just a Heartbeat Away

Ryan Beard, MD, began seeing patients full-time at William Newton Cardiology in September 2021. The clinic, located at the Physicians Pavilion in Winfield, is the only full-time practice in Cowley County dedicated to cardiovascular medicine.
A Kansas native, Dr. Beard is board certified in cardiology and received his medical degree from KU School of Medicine in 2008. After completing residency and fellowship, he began practicing in Wichita as an interventional cardiologist in 2015. "We worked closely with Heartland Cardiology to bring Dr. Beard to Winfield," explains WNH CEO Ben Quinton. "When we expanded cardiovascular services in 2019, it was our goal to offer life-saving procedures, close-to-home, to the people in our community. [Dr. Beard's] Kansas roots and experience working with rural hospitals made him the perfect fit."
Dr. Beard says he was drawn to cardiology early in his training. As an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Beard specializes in endovascular procedures, working primarily inside the blood vessels, veins, and arteries of the body. "I explain it often to people that we're sort of like the plumbers of cardiology. It can be thought of as minimally invasive ways of accessing the heart and the vascular system."

Dr. Beard offers office visits and hospital consults. At the William Newton Cardiology clinic, he commonly treats patients for chest pain, heart arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, and peripheral vascular disease, including aneurysms and blockages in the vessels in the lower extremities (legs). He also serves as the medical director for the William Newton Hospital cardiac catheterization lab (or "cath lab"), which opened in January 2020. "The cardiac catheterization lab here is an amazing facility. It's all brand new, state-of-the-art, as good if not the best of any heart cath lab in this area," Beard says.
Dr. Beard wants the community to know he's excited to be a part of the team at William Newton Hospital. ''I'm committed to being here long-term and to becoming a regular fixture in healthcare here in Winfield."
