For older adults, falls are the most common cause of traumatic brain injury, which ultimately can be fatal. Even for elderly patients who do not die due to injury from a fall, consequences can lead to nursing home stays and subsequent health decline. Orthopedic injuries from falls, such as broken bones in the wrist, arm, ankle, or hip, are common in all seasons, but Winter can be the worst.

Barta Named WNH CEO

On Wednesday, William Newton Hospital’s board of trustees named Brian Barta, CPA as Chief Executive Officer. His appointment as CEO is effective immediately. “Brian’s unique experience with Critical Access Hospitals as well as his knowledge of WNH make him the right candidate to move the hospital forward. We welcome Brian to the position,” shares William Newton Hospital Board Chair Joan Cales.

Gala Raises Record $76k for Hospital

William Newton Healthcare Foundation hosted its 15th annual fundraising event on October 15 presented by Union State Bank. After hosting virtual galas for the past two years to help keep guests safe from COVID-19 transmission, the roaring twenties-themed event was held at the historic Burford Theatre as was originally planned in 2020.

Masking Update: November 22, 2022

Due to the current community transmission levels for respiratory illnesses, William Newton Hospital has updated our masking policy. The risk level is now HIGH, which means masks are required for patients, visitors,* & staff in clinical and public areas. Masking is not required when adequate spacing and ventilation are available (i.e. meeting rooms or personal spaces).

Public Invited to Surgery Center Celebration

Since the original ceremony was canceled in March of 2020 due to COVID-19, William Newton Hospital is commemorating its surgery center expansion with a grand opening celebration for the H. L. Snyder Medical Foundation Surgery Center at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 20. The event will start on the north side of the hospital at 1300 E. Fifth Ave. in Winfield.
